A tragic fire in the southern port city of Busan, South Korea, has left four people dead and four others injured. The blaze broke out at a construction site at the Banyan Tree Hotel just before 11 a.m. local time on Friday. At the time of the fire, about 10 workers were on-site, and six of them suffered cardiac arrest, with four of them later confirmed dead. Four others sustained injuries.
The fire is believed to have started on the first floor of the construction site, where insulation materials were stored. Authorities are still working to fully extinguish the fire, and the situation remains ongoing.
South Korea’s acting president, Choi Sang-mok, has ordered all relevant ministries to mobilize personnel and equipment to assist in extinguishing the fire and ensuring the safety of those involved in search and rescue operations. This incident follows closely after a fire on an Air Busan plane at Gimhae International Airport, which left several passengers injured.
