Starmer Condemns Putin’s ‘Hollow Promises’ Before Ukraine Ceasefire Summit

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of stalling a proposed Ukraine ceasefire. Before a virtual summit with leaders from 25 nations, Starmer insisted that Russia must act and negotiate. He warned that Putin would eventually have to engage in talks.

The summit aims to form a “coalition of the willing” to secure commitments for Ukraine. Starmer stressed the need to strengthen Ukraine, protect any ceasefire, and keep pressure on Moscow.

Starmer has urged a shift toward air and sea defense support for Ukraine instead of deploying European ground troops. He warned of serious consequences if Russia violates any peace deal. He also emphasized the importance of reinforcing Ukraine’s defense without disrupting its existing strategies.

The UK plans to speed up military support, including potential troop deployments. Officials are working on force structures to counter Ukraine’s threats.

Starmer’s tough stance reflects frustration among Western leaders over Russia’s demands. Moscow wants sanctions lifted before agreeing to a ceasefire. French President Emmanuel Macron dismissed these conditions and stated that sanctions would remain until Russia follows international law.
