EPL: Maresca Confirms Jorgensen as Chelsea’s Number One Goalkeeper

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Filip Jorgensen is now the Chelsea number one goalkeeper, replacing Robert Sanchez as the club looks to regain form in the Premier League.

Sanchez, 27, has struggled with costly errors this season, including a mistake in last month’s 3-1 defeat against Manchester City. In response, Maresca handed 22-year-old Jorgensen his Premier League debut in a 2-1 win over West Ham, before briefly reinstating Sanchez for Chelsea’s FA Cup loss to Brighton.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s league clash with Brighton, Maresca clarified that Jorgensen is now the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

“Our keeper in this moment is Filip,” Maresca said. “The idea is not to change goalkeepers every game. I wanted to give Robert some time to recover mentally and physically, but Filip was our goalkeeper in the last Premier League match, and he remains our number one.”

Chelsea’s strong start to the season has faded, with the club now fighting to secure a Champions League spot. However, Maresca remains confident in the team’s progress.

“In the last two years, Chelsea has never been in the top four, but this season, we’ve spent almost the entire campaign there,” he said. “We’re moving in the right direction and will do everything possible to secure Champions League qualification.”

With Jorgensen now confirmed as Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper, the young Dane will aim to solidify his place between the posts as the club pushes for a strong finish to the season.
