Turkey launched airstrikes on Kurdish-controlled areas in northeastern Syria, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people, including security personnel and civilians. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) blamed Turkey for the attack, which was reportedly in response to a recent bombing in Ankara that Turkish authorities attributed to Kurdish militants.
The SDF, a key U.S. ally in the fight against ISIS, strongly condemned the strikes, stating that they targeted civilian infrastructure and threatened regional stability. The group denied any involvement in the Ankara bombing and urged international intervention to prevent further escalation.
This incident is part of ongoing hostilities between Turkey and Kurdish factions in Syria and Iraq. Turkey considers Kurdish groups in the region as extensions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which it has designated a terrorist organization.
