Former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed new travel restrictions affecting citizens from 41 countries, aiming to enhance national security measures.

An internal memo outlines three categories of restrictions:

  1. Full Visa Suspension: Citizens from 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Venezuela, would be entirely barred from entering the U.S.
  2. Partial Visa Suspension: Five countries—Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan—would face partial suspensions affecting tourist, student, and certain immigrant visas, with some exceptions.
  3. Conditional Partial Suspension: Twenty-six countries, such as Belarus, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan, could see visa issuance restrictions unless they address identified security and information-sharing deficiencies within 60 days.

This proposal is pending approval from key administration officials, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and may undergo changes before implementation. The initiative reflects Trump’s ongoing efforts to tighten immigration policies, reminiscent of his earlier travel bans targeting specific nations.

Critics argue that such broad restrictions could strain diplomatic relations and impact international cooperation. Supporters believe these measures are necessary to safeguard national security by ensuring rigorous vetting processes.
