Manchester City announced on Thursday the acquisition of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush for an initial fee estimated at around £59 million ($72.6 million).
The 25-year-old has reportedly signed a four-and-a-half-year deal, which may include an additional £4.2 million in performance-related add-ons.
Marmoush becomes City’s third signing in the January transfer window, following the signings of defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
“This is a day I will always remember. Joining Manchester City — one of the top teams globally — is an incredible experience,” he mentioned. “I am thrilled, my family feels proud, and we are all excited to be in Manchester.”
Director of football Txiki Begiristain described Marmoush as an “accomplished and exciting forward.”
“He has had an outstanding season, and we have seen him make an impact in every match we’ve watched,” he stated. “He possesses all the qualities needed for a top-tier attacker. He has remarkable speed and awareness, and he excels in front of the goal. Additionally, he can operate in various positions, which is a significant asset.”
His transfer to the Etihad Stadium occurs during a challenging season for City. Having won the league title for the last four years, City currently sits fifth in the Premier League, trailing league leaders Liverpool by 12 points with one more game played.
A loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday has also put Pep Guardiola’s team at risk of missing out on the Champions League knockout stage.
