Belgium’s football federation announced on Friday that Rudi Garcia from France has been appointed as the new head coach for the national team, following the dismissal of Domenico Tedesco.
The federation mentioned they would officially present the 60-year-old, who previously managed Napoli, Lyon, and Roma, to the media at a later press event.
Garcia, who has also been at the helm of Saudi club Al Nassr and French powerhouse Marseille, faces the challenge of revitalizing the Red Devils after a lackluster Euro 2024 tournament.
Last week, Belgium dismissed the Italian-German coach Tedesco after an early exit from the continental championship this summer, along with subpar recent performances in the Nations League.
Garcia’s most recent managerial role at Napoli was a brief and unsuccessful five-month period in 2023 during a challenging season following their title win.
The Frenchman initially gained recognition as a coach at Lille, where he worked from 2008 to 2013.
Belgium will begin their qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup with an away match against North Macedonia in June.
Tedesco had taken over the position in February 2023 to succeed Roberto Martinez and lead the team in rebuilding efforts as the nation’s “golden generation” phased out.
