British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has questioned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s dedication to achieving peace in Ukraine, urging him to demonstrate sincerity by agreeing to a proposed 30-day unconditional ceasefire. During a virtual summit with leaders from over 30 countries, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Starmer emphasized that “sooner or later” Russia must engage in peace negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.
The summit participants discussed transitioning ceasefire plans into an “operational phase,” focusing on providing robust military and financial support to Ukraine to ensure lasting security. Starmer highlighted the necessity of continued international pressure on Russia, stating that Putin cannot indefinitely delay peace talks.
Despite Ukraine’s acceptance of the proposed truce, Putin has set demanding conditions, causing delays in peace proceedings. Starmer underscored the importance of holding Russia accountable and being prepared to enforce the ceasefire through a coalition of willing countries.
The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with further meetings among military leaders planned to develop practical support for strengthening Ukraine’s defenses. The goal remains to achieve a durable peace agreement that ensures Ukraine’s sovereignty and regional stability.
