Afghanistan Releases 2,500 Prisoners Ahead of Eid Celebrations

The Afghan government has released 2,500 prisoners as part of a goodwill gesture ahead of the Eid celebrations. Officials say the move aims to promote national reconciliation and offer inmates a chance to reunite with their families during the festive period.

The released prisoners include those convicted of minor offenses and individuals who have shown good behavior. Authorities confirmed that the decision aligns with traditional Eid amnesty practices and efforts to ease prison overcrowding.

Government officials emphasized that all releases followed legal procedures and security screenings. They assured the public that the move would not compromise national security.

The mass release is part of broader efforts to foster peace and stability in the country. Similar measures have been taken in the past during major Islamic holidays to encourage social harmony.
