In a shocking incident, ten inmates escaped from the Orleans Parish Jail in New Orleans early on May 16, 2025. This breach of security has raised serious concerns about the facility’s protocols and prompted an extensive manhunt for the fugitives.
The inmates began their escape around 12:23 a.m. by breaching a wall behind a toilet in their cell. They dug a hole large enough to get out, a plan that likely required significant time and possibly tools that would have been difficult to obtain without inside assistance.
Authorities discovered the escape during a routine headcount at 8:30 a.m. Consequently, they launched a search operation involving local police, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies. As of the latest reports, three of the ten escapees have returned to custody, while seven remain at large.
Sheriff Susan Hutson stated that the escape would have been “impossible without help” from individuals inside the jail. In response, the department suspended three employees as part of the ongoing investigation.
Among the escapees are individuals facing serious charges, including murder and armed robbery. Authorities warn that these individuals should be considered “armed and dangerous.” The escapees include Antoine Massey, Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, Kendell Myles, Derrick Groves, Jermain Donald, Corey Boyd, Gary Price, Robert Moody, and DKenan Dennis.
Furthermore, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. They emphasize the need for improved security measures within the jail to prevent future incidents. This escape has sparked discussions about the adequacy of current safety protocols and the urgent need for reforms.
As the search continues, authorities are offering rewards for information leading to the capture of the remaining escapees. The community remains on high alert as law enforcement works tirelessly to bring the fugitives back into custody.
