Pope Francis has now spent ten days in the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, with his condition remaining critical, according to a medical update from the Holy See Press Office on Sunday evening.
Despite the severity of his condition, the Vatican assured that the Pope had not suffered any further respiratory crises and remained alert and well-oriented. The 88-year-old pontiff was admitted on February 14 due to worsening bronchitis, with initial diagnostic tests confirming a respiratory tract infection.
Medical Update on Pope Francis
The Holy See’s statement provided specific details on the Pope’s health, noting that he received two units of concentrated red blood cells, which helped improve his hemoglobin levels. However, thrombocytopenia (a low platelet count) remains stable, and early signs of mild renal insufficiency have emerged but are currently under control. The Pope continues to receive high-flow oxygen therapy through nasal cannulas.
Despite his condition, Pope Francis participated in a Holy Mass on Sunday in a hospital apartment on the tenth floor, surrounded by his medical team and caregivers.
Prayers for the Pontiff
As concerns persist, Catholic leaders urged parishioners worldwide to continue praying for the Pope’s recovery during Sunday Masses. His prolonged hospitalization has raised anxiety within the Catholic community, with many hoping for his swift return to full health.
