Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted his side has only a “one per cent” chance of overturning their 3-2 first-leg defeat when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Despite leading 2-1 with four minutes left, City conceded twice late at the Etihad Stadium, leaving them in a difficult position for the return leg at the Bernabéu.
“The margin to win at the Bernabéu from that position, everybody knows, the percentage to go through… we arrive at one per cent. Or I don’t know what, but it will be minimal,” Guardiola said.
However, he insisted that his team will fight for the comeback, even though he acknowledged their poor performances this season.
City head to Madrid with momentum after a 4-0 Premier League win over Newcastle, which strengthened their bid for Champions League qualification next season.
“Of course, it’s better to travel to Madrid with this result,” Guardiola added, but maintained that his squad has been “miles away” from their usual standards.
