JD Vance Praises Trump Administration’s Commitment to Religious Freedom

United States Vice President JD Vance has commended former President Donald Trump’s commitment to defending religious freedom, particularly in regions where Christians face persecution, such as Nigeria.

Speaking at the 2025 National Catholic Prayer Breakfast on Friday, Vance highlighted the challenges faced by Nigerian priests who continue to safeguard their congregations despite ongoing threats. He used their plight to underscore the Trump administration’s foreign policy approach, which he said aligns with Christian social teachings.

“One of the most important parts of President Trump’s policy, and where I think President Trump’s policy is most in accord with Christian social teaching and with the Catholic faith, is that more than any president of my lifetime, President Trump has pursued a path of peace,” Vance stated.

He stressed the impact of foreign policy on religious freedom, pointing out that global stability is essential for the protection of faith communities. Referring to past discussions at the prayer breakfast, Vance recalled the persecution of Nigerian priests who have continued to defend their flocks despite severe oppression.

Vance emphasized that Christian persecution remains one of the most widespread forms of religious intolerance today. He praised the Trump administration for making the protection of religious liberty a central priority, both within the United States and abroad.

“We know that some of the biggest groups that are persecuted all over the world today are Christians, and the Trump administration promises you that whether it’s here at home with our own citizens or all over the world, we will be the biggest defenders of religious liberty and the rights of conscience,” he affirmed.

He assured the audience that the administration would continue advocating for vulnerable religious communities, particularly in regions where Christians face violence and oppression.
