The company’s ambition to lead AI innovations, improve its core offerings, and expand infrastructure to enable ground-breaking developments in the sector includes this significant investment.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, laid out the company’s next steps in pursuit of these lofty objectives in a Facebook post on Friday.
The second-richest man in the world stated, “This year, we intend to invest $60-65 billion in capital expenditures while also significantly growing our AI teams.”
“We have the money to keep investing in the years to come,” he continued. This is a huge undertaking that will propel our core company and products, spur historic innovation, and strengthen American technological leadership in the years to come.
Meta is constructing a huge data center with a power capacity of over 2 gigawatts to support these activities. The size of the center will highlight the scope of the infrastructure needed, as it may encompass a sizable chunk of Manhattan, a US county.
Meta also intends to construct an AI system that can write code and contribute to its research and development on its own. Other AI software and systems will be developed with the help of this AI.
“This year will be significant for AI. I anticipate that Meta AI will be the most popular assistant by 2025, helping over 1 billion people.
Zuckerberg declared, “We’ll build an AI engineer who will start contributing increasing amounts of code to our R&D efforts, and Llama 4 will become the leading state-of-the-art model.”
“Meta is building a 2GW+ data center to power this, which is so big it would cover a significant part of Manhattan,” he continued. We’ll bring approximately 1GW of computing online in 2025, and we’ll end the year with more than 1.3 million GPUs.”
The surge in AI investments is driven by the success of platforms like ChatGPT, which has inspired businesses across multiple industries to adopt AI technologies.
