The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has unveiled an ambitious plan to assist over 3 million displaced farmers across Nigeria. This initiative aims to restore livelihoods by providing land, financial aid, and agricultural resources.
Many farmers have abandoned their fields due to insecurity, climate change, and ongoing conflicts, causing a decline in food production and rising prices.
Speaking at the launch, NALDA’s Executive Secretary, Paul Ikonne, emphasized that the program will deliver essential farming inputs, mechanized tools, and specialized training to boost productivity. The government will also offer soft loans and grants to help farmers regain financial stability.
The initiative will reintegrate farmers into commercial agriculture by using abandoned and government-owned lands. Specially designed resettlement farms will provide a safe space for displaced individuals to grow crops and raise livestock.
This program aligns with the Nigerian government’s broader strategy to increase domestic food production and reduce import dependence. Experts predict that restoring farming communities will stabilize food supply, curb inflation, and create rural employment opportunities.
