Nine Killed, Three Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Ayetoro claimed nine lives and left three others injured in the early hours of Monday.

Details of the Accident

The crash, which occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m., involved a Toyota bus (UYY 165 ZY) and a stationary truck (DKA 244 XC). According to eyewitness reports, the bus driver lost control and rammed into the parked truck, resulting in multiple casualties.

Spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement:

  • Total persons involved: 13 (10 males, 3 females)
  • Fatalities: 9 (6 males, 3 females)
  • Injured: 3

The primary causes of the accident were identified as excessive speed and driver fatigue, which led to a loss of control.

Rescue and Response

  • Injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe for treatment.
  • Deceased persons were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.

FRSC Reacts to Reckless Driving

The Sector Commander of the Ogun State FRSC expressed deep concern over drivers exceeding speed limits and failing to observe the mandatory 15-minute rest after every four-hour journey.

He extended condolences to the victims’ families and urged them to contact the Mowe Unit Command for further information.

Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of road safety regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
