Philippine Volcano Erupts, Prompting Evacuations

Mount Kanlaon, located on Negros Island, erupted on April 8, 2025, releasing an ash plume up to 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) into the sky. The eruption covered nearby villages in ash, leading authorities to suspend school classes in at least four communities. No injuries or significant damage have been reported.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised the alert level to 3, signaling increased volcanic activity. It advised residents within a 6-kilometer radius to stay alert and avoid the danger zone.

Kanlaon is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. The country frequently experiences volcanic activity due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
