Prince Harry Steps Down from African Charity Amid Leadership Clash

Prince Harry steps down from Sentebale, the African charity he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. The organization supports children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. His resignation follows a major leadership dispute.

The conflict involves Dr. Sophie Chandauka, chairwoman of Sentebale’s board. Harry, Prince Seeiso, and the board of trustees resigned, calling the situation under Chandauka’s leadership “untenable.” Chandauka accused the charity of poor governance, abuse of power, and discrimination, including bullying and misogyny. She filed a complaint with the UK’s Charity Commission, which is now investigating.

Sentebale announced plans to restructure its board. The charity aims to expand its mission to include youth health and climate resilience in southern Africa. Despite stepping down, Harry and Prince Seeiso remain committed to the charity’s beneficiaries and future work.
