South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron, aged 24, was found dead in her Seongsu-dong apartment on Sunday, according to authorities.
Police confirmed that a friend discovered her body at around 4:55 PM (07:55 GMT). While no signs of foul play were found, an official investigation into the cause of death is currently ongoing.
Kim Sae-ron began her career as a child actress and was considered one of South Korea’s rising stars. She gained fame for her role in the 2009 film A Brand New Life, which was featured at the Cannes Film Festival. She also starred in The Man from Nowhere (2010), South Korea’s highest-grossing film that year, and the 2012 thriller The Neighbour, which garnered critical praise.
Her other notable works include the 2014 film A Girl at My Door and the 2016 television drama Mirror of the Witch.
In 2022, Kim Sae-ron largely withdrew from the public spotlight following a drunk driving incident, for which she was fined 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023. Her last role was in Netflix’s 2023 drama Bloodhounds, though it’s reported that much of her performance was edited out due to the controversy surrounding her.
