South Korea’s Constitutional Court to Rule on President Yoon’s Impeachment

South Korea’s Constitutional Court is set to deliver its ruling on President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment this Friday at 11 a.m. local time. The court’s decision will determine whether President Yoon will be permanently removed from office or reinstated. To uphold the impeachment, at least six of the eight justices must agree. If the impeachment is upheld, a new presidential election will be required within 60 days. If overturned, Yoon will immediately resume his presidential duties.

The impeachment follows President Yoon’s declaration of martial law in December, which caused political unrest and division in the country. Public opinion remains divided, with large protests both supporting and opposing Yoon’s removal. Authorities are preparing for potential unrest following the court’s decision.

Acting President Han Duck-soo has called on all citizens to respect the court’s ruling, emphasizing the importance of maintaining constitutional order. He expressed concern over the potential for violence and urged the public to remain calm and respect democratic principles.

The court’s decision is highly anticipated and is expected to significantly impact South Korea’s political landscape. The ruling will be broadcast live, underscoring its importance to the nation.
