A group of transgender sex workers who were welcomed by Pope Francis at the Vatican have expressed their gratitude by praying for his health and well-being.
The encounter, which took place during one of the Pope’s weekly charity events, highlights his ongoing efforts to reach out to marginalized communities. The group, primarily from Latin America, had previously received assistance from the Vatican during the COVID-19 pandemic when many of them faced economic hardship.
Speaking to reporters, several of the attendees described the Pope’s kindness as “a beacon of hope” in their lives. They noted that his willingness to embrace individuals often ostracized by society demonstrated the core principles of compassion and acceptance within the Church.
One of the women, who identified as Camila, said, “We pray for Pope Francis every day because he has shown us love and respect when so many have turned their backs on us.”
The Vatican has not officially commented on the meeting, but the Pope has been vocal about the importance of inclusivity in the Church, repeatedly calling for an end to discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals.
Despite criticism from some conservative factions within the Catholic Church, Pope Francis continues to advocate for a more open and understanding approach toward marginalized communities.
