President Donald Trump has announced the immediate termination of Secret Service protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden, the adult children of former President Joe Biden. Trump cited the substantial costs to taxpayers as the primary reason for this decision, highlighting that Hunter Biden’s security detail consisted of 18 agents, while Ashley Biden’s included 13 agents.
This move follows reports of Hunter Biden’s recent vacation in South Africa, during which his Secret Service detail accompanied him. Trump criticized the use of government resources for such purposes, calling it “ridiculous.”
Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses receive lifelong Secret Service protection. However, protection for their immediate family members over the age of 16 typically ends when they leave office. Both Trump and Biden had previously extended these protections for their children for an additional six months before leaving office.
The Secret Service has acknowledged President Trump’s directive and is coordinating with the protective details and the White House to implement the changes promptly.
