The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has announced the establishment of Renewed Hope Mega Farm Estates in Ekiti, Kwara, Bauchi, and Plateau states as part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery to farmers, increase agricultural productivity, and strengthen Nigeria’s food security.
The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader agricultural transformation agenda under the Renewed Hope programme, which seeks to modernise farming, expand access to agricultural resources, create employment opportunities, and stimulate rural economic development.
Furthermore, NALDA explained that the Mega Farm Estates will serve as integrated agricultural hubs where farmers can access modern farming infrastructure, mechanisation services, improved seedlings, technical support, and other essential resources needed to enhance productivity.
Expanding Agricultural Opportunities
The authority stated that the establishment of the Mega Farm Estates represents another significant step toward increasing food production across Nigeria.
Furthermore, the selected states possess strong agricultural potential capable of supporting large-scale cultivation of various food and cash crops while providing opportunities for livestock production and agribusiness development.
According to NALDA, developing these estates will maximise available agricultural resources while encouraging greater participation in commercial farming.
Agriculture remains central to economic growth.
Improving Service Delivery to Farmers
NALDA explained that one of the primary objectives of the project is to improve the quality of services available to farmers.
Furthermore, farmers operating within the estates will benefit from easier access to mechanised farming equipment, extension services, improved planting materials, irrigation support, storage facilities, and modern agricultural technologies.
These interventions will enable farmers to improve yields while reducing production costs.
Better services increase productivity.
Supporting Food Security
The authority emphasised that expanding agricultural production remains essential for achieving sustainable food security.
Furthermore, increased cultivation across the Mega Farm Estates will contribute to higher food availability, stabilise market supplies, and support efforts to reduce food inflation.
NALDA believes that strengthening domestic agricultural production remains one of the most effective ways to improve national food resilience.
Greater production supports food security.
Creating Employment Opportunities
The Renewed Hope Mega Farm Estates are also expected to generate significant employment opportunities.
Furthermore, the initiative will create jobs across farming, processing, transportation, equipment maintenance, logistics, packaging, storage, marketing, and agricultural support services.
Young people and women are expected to benefit from expanded access to agricultural employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Agriculture creates sustainable livelihoods.
Promoting Modern Farming Practices
NALDA noted that modern agriculture requires more than traditional farming methods.
Furthermore, the Mega Farm Estates will encourage farmers to adopt improved production techniques, mechanisation, climate-smart agriculture, precision farming, and efficient resource management practices.
Modern farming improves efficiency.
The authority believes that technology-driven agriculture will significantly increase productivity while promoting environmental sustainability.
Strengthening Rural Economies
The establishment of the farm estates will also stimulate economic activities within surrounding communities.
Furthermore, increased agricultural production will create demand for transportation, processing, financial services, equipment supply, agro-input distribution, and local businesses supporting farming activities.
Rural development strengthens national growth.
Growing agricultural communities contribute directly to local economic expansion.
Encouraging Public-Private Partnerships
NALDA reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with state governments, private investors, financial institutions, development partners, and farming communities.
Furthermore, these partnerships will strengthen implementation while expanding investment opportunities across Nigeria’s agricultural value chains.
Collaboration accelerates development.
The authority stressed that successful agricultural transformation requires active participation from both the public and private sectors.
Supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda
The Mega Farm Estates align closely with the Federal Government’s broader commitment to revitalising agriculture under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Furthermore, investments in mechanisation, infrastructure, rural development, and farmer support continue demonstrating the administration’s determination to strengthen food production while reducing dependence on imports.
Agriculture remains a national priority.
Building a Sustainable Agricultural Future
NALDA concluded that the establishment of the Renewed Hope Mega Farm Estates in Ekiti, Kwara, Bauchi, and Plateau states represents an important milestone in Nigeria’s agricultural development journey.
Furthermore, by improving service delivery, expanding access to modern farming infrastructure, supporting mechanisation, creating employment opportunities, strengthening rural economies, and increasing food production, the initiative is expected to contribute significantly to sustainable agricultural transformation, improved food security, and long-term economic prosperity.
The authority expressed confidence that continued investment in large-scale agricultural infrastructure, combined with stronger partnerships and farmer empowerment programmes, will position Nigeria to build a more productive, resilient, and globally competitive agricultural sector capable of meeting the food needs of its growing population while driving inclusive national development.
