Serie A: After Five Years, Brazil Defender Danilo Departs Juventus

Danilo, a Brazilian defender, left Juventus on Monday after the Serie A team and the player agreed to mutually terminate his contract.

According to a statement from Juventus, “Danilo Luiz da Silva and Juventus have parted ways after five and a half years together, following a mutual termination of the player’s contract.”

After 213 games with Juventus, the 33-year-old departs with an outstanding record that includes one Serie A title, two Italian Cups, and one Italian Super Cup.

According to Italian media, Danilo, whose contract was supposed to expire at the conclusion of the season, is expected to sign a two-year contract with Flamengo to return home to Brazil.

Danilo posted a heartbreaking note on Instagram that stated, “I knew this day would come sooner or later, but you’re never ready to say goodbye.”

The defender’s departure comes after he lost favor following the summer arrival of coach Thiago Motta and the appointment of Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli as captain.

Ahead of a loan deal from Chelsea, Portugal defender Renato Veiga landed in Turin on Monday for his medical.

Gleison Bremer, a defender for Brazil and Danilo’s countryman, has been sidelined for the season due to a knee injury.

Juventus, who are two points out of a Champions League qualifying slot and now in fifth place in Serie A, will play Benfica on Wednesday in Europe’s top club competition.
