Trump Calls for Lower Interest Rates to Align with Upcoming Tariffs

U.S. President Donald Trump has called for a reduction in interest rates, arguing that such a move would complement the upcoming tariff increases.

In a post shared on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump emphasized the importance of lowering interest rates, directly linking the proposal to potential tariff hikes.

“Interest rates should be lowered, something which would go hand in hand with upcoming tariffs,” he stated.

Earlier in January, the Federal Reserve decided to keep interest rates steady within the range of 4.25 percent to 4.50 percent, following three consecutive rate cuts in 2024.

In the meantime, Trump has imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, as well as a 25 percent tariff on goods from Canada, Mexico, and China. However, the tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico were temporarily paused for a 30-day period.
