Zelensky to Visit White House Amid US-Ukraine Minerals Deal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to visit the White House following an agreement on a minerals deal with the United States, according to former President Donald Trump. Details of the deal remain unclear, but early reports suggest it is significantly in Washington’s favor.

Naomi Lim of the Washington Examiner told BBC Radio 5 Live that Zelensky initially opposed the agreement when it was first presented by US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant. However, she noted that amid recent tensions between Trump and Zelensky, the Ukrainian leader appears more willing to negotiate, particularly with security discussions still on the agenda.

The agreement reportedly involves Ukraine allocating 50% of its revenue from minerals, oil, gas, infrastructure, and ports into an investment fund co-managed by the US, though the US would hold full financial interest in it.

The deal also comes amid speculation about Russia’s stance, with the Kremlin possibly seeking its own rare earth minerals arrangement.
