The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has intensified its efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s food security by expanding its Renewed Hope Mega Farm Programme across the country, with new projects aimed at increasing agricultural production, creating employment, and transforming rural communities.
The agency said the initiative forms part of its long-term strategy to modernise agriculture, improve access to farmland, and encourage greater participation in commercial farming.
Furthermore, NALDA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda through sustainable land development and mechanised farming.
Mega Farm Estates Driving Food Production
NALDA revealed that its large-scale farm estates are designed to boost food production while creating modern agricultural settlements equipped with essential infrastructure.
Furthermore, the estates incorporate mechanised farming, irrigation facilities, processing centres, storage systems, internal road networks, and accommodation for participating farmers.
The agency believes the integrated approach will significantly improve agricultural productivity and reduce food shortages across the country.
Creating Employment Opportunities
The authority explained that the programme is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs through farming, processing, transportation, logistics, and agribusiness activities.
Furthermore, each participating farmer receives allocated farmland while engaging additional workers, creating employment opportunities that stimulate local economies and improve rural livelihoods.
The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to reducing unemployment while expanding agricultural production.
Supporting Rural Development
NALDA emphasised that the initiative goes beyond food production by promoting comprehensive rural development.
Furthermore, improved infrastructure, expanded farming activities, and increased commercial opportunities are expected to strengthen local economies while reducing poverty in participating communities.
Agriculture remains a catalyst for rural transformation.
Expanding Agricultural Innovation
The agency continues introducing modern farming technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability.
Furthermore, mechanised cultivation, improved seedlings, irrigation systems, and climate-smart agricultural practices are helping farmers increase yields while adapting to changing environmental conditions.
Innovation strengthens agricultural resilience.
Strengthening Food Security
NALDA reiterated that increasing domestic food production remains one of its primary objectives.
Furthermore, expanding cultivated land and supporting commercial agriculture will reduce dependence on food imports while improving the availability of locally produced food across Nigeria.
The authority believes sustained investment in agriculture will strengthen food security and improve national resilience against global supply disruptions.
Empowering Farmers
The authority continues providing technical support, training, and access to agricultural resources for participating farmers.
Furthermore, these interventions are designed to improve productivity, strengthen agribusiness skills, encourage mechanised farming, and promote sustainable agricultural practices capable of increasing farmers’ incomes.
Empowered farmers strengthen the economy.
Driving Long-Term Agricultural Growth
NALDA reaffirmed that agriculture remains central to Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy.
Furthermore, through expanded mega farm estates, rural development programmes, modern farming practices, and increased support for farmers, the agency aims to strengthen food production, create employment, improve rural livelihoods, attract greater investment into agriculture, and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s long-term agricultural and economic development.
The authority expressed confidence that sustained implementation of these initiatives will position agriculture as a major driver of inclusive growth, food security, and national prosperity.
