President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the proposed campaign timetable of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), setting the stage for a series of political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The approval marks a new phase in the ruling party’s campaign preparations, with the council planning state visits and political activities intended to communicate the administration’s record, engage party supporters and coordinate its nationwide campaign structure.
Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, disclosed the development on Friday after briefing Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. According to Yari, the meeting focused on the council’s level of preparedness and the proposed schedule for the President’s campaign visits.
APC Sets October Dates for Campaign Activities
Yari said the Presidential Campaign Council would hold its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, October 14, at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the council’s leadership to coordinate its activities before the formal campaign flag-off.
Kaduna State is scheduled to host the opening rally on October 24, ten days after the council’s inaugural meeting.
The campaign is then expected to move to Rivers State before proceeding to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. However, the council has yet to release the complete timetable covering its planned visits to other states.
Yari explained that the President had approved the proposed schedule after reviewing the campaign arrangements with the council’s leadership.
He added that the full itinerary would be made public following the council’s inauguration, when further details of the planned engagements could be communicated.
The sequence provides an initial outline of the campaign’s geographical reach, although the dates and arrangements for subsequent state visits remain subject to the official timetable.
Kaduna to Host the Campaign Flag-Off
The decision to begin the campaign in Kaduna places the North-West state at the centre of the APC’s opening presidential campaign activities.
The flag-off is expected to bring together party leaders, campaign officials, elected representatives, state coordinators and supporters as the ruling party begins its organised campaign programme.
Beyond the rally itself, the opening event will provide an opportunity for the campaign council to outline its messaging, coordinate mobilisation structures and establish the tone for subsequent engagements.
Large political gatherings are often used by parties to demonstrate organisational capacity and bring supporters together. Nevertheless, attendance at a rally does not independently establish the level of public support a candidate enjoys across the electorate.
The campaign’s broader significance will therefore depend on its activities across different communities and its engagement with the concerns voters consider important ahead of the election.
Rivers and Borno Included in Early Campaign Itinerary
Following the Kaduna flag-off, the campaign is expected to proceed to Rivers State and then Maiduguri in Borno State.
The inclusion of these destinations indicates that the proposed programme will extend beyond the opening rally and involve engagements in different parts of the country.
Rivers State is an important political centre in the South-South, while Borno occupies a significant place in political discussions across the North-East. Visits to the two locations could provide opportunities for the campaign council to engage party structures and supporters in those areas.
However, the precise format of the planned engagements, including the venues, participating officials and dates, had not been fully announced at the time of Yari’s briefing.
The publication of the complete timetable after the council’s inauguration should provide greater clarity about the scope and sequencing of the nationwide programme.
Campaign Council to Coordinate Nationwide Mobilisation
The Presidential Campaign Council is expected to coordinate activities involving the party’s national leadership, state chapters, political officeholders and other campaign stakeholders.
Such coordination becomes particularly important when a campaign involves multiple locations, large numbers of participants and different levels of party organisation.
The council will need to communicate its plans to state structures, coordinate logistics and ensure that its messaging remains consistent across the campaign.
Moreover, effective organisation will require more than scheduling rallies. It will also involve managing communication, arranging stakeholder engagements and establishing clear responsibilities among campaign officials.
The October 14 inaugural meeting is therefore an important administrative milestone ahead of the Kaduna flag-off. It is expected to bring the council’s leadership together to advance the arrangements already approved by the President.
Administration’s Record Expected to Feature in Campaign Messaging
Yari indicated that the administration’s performance would form part of the APC’s campaign message as the party prepares to seek another presidential mandate.
Campaign messaging around an incumbent administration commonly includes explanations of government policies, projects and claimed achievements. It also creates an opportunity for political opponents and voters to scrutinise those claims and assess them against their experiences.
For the APC, presenting its record will require communicating the administration’s policies and outcomes to different audiences across the country.
Economic conditions, electricity access, security, employment, infrastructure and the cost of living are among the issues that may feature in public debate as the election approaches. Voters will ultimately assess the parties’ claims alongside their own experiences and the alternatives presented by other political organisations.
Consequently, the campaign will take place within a broader political environment in which government performance, policy commitments and competing priorities are likely to attract attention.
Full Timetable Expected After Inauguration
Although Tinubu has approved the proposed campaign timetable, the council has indicated that the complete schedule will be released after its inauguration.
That announcement is expected to clarify the remaining state visits and provide additional information about the campaign’s sequence and arrangements.
The distinction between the approved proposal and the published itinerary is important because the initial announcement identifies only the opening locations and key dates. Further details will be needed to establish the full programme.
The campaign council will also need to translate the timetable into practical arrangements involving local party structures, venues, logistics and communication.
As preparations continue, attention will turn to how the council organises the nationwide programme and communicates its activities to party members and the public.
A New Phase in Preparations for 2027
Tinubu’s approval of the proposed timetable establishes the next stage of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election. With the council’s inaugural meeting scheduled for October 14 and the Kaduna flag-off planned for October 24, the party has outlined the first major milestones of its campaign programme.
The subsequent visits to Rivers State and Maiduguri are expected to extend the campaign beyond its opening event, while the full itinerary remains pending.
Ultimately, the significance of the timetable will depend on its implementation, the issues raised during the campaign and the extent to which political engagements provide voters with clear information about the administration’s record and the party’s plans for another term.
As the 2027 election approaches, the announced schedule offers an early indication of how the APC intends to organise its presidential campaign, with further details expected after the Presidential Campaign Council’s inauguration.
