The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has appealed to Nigerians to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its efforts to tackle the country’s security challenges, emphasizing that lasting peace and stability require the cooperation of government and citizens alike.
Speaking on Thursday, Umahi stressed that security remains a shared responsibility that cannot be achieved through government action alone. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and provide useful information that could assist in combating criminal activities and protecting communities across the country.
Furthermore, the minister noted that national unity and public support are essential ingredients for overcoming insecurity and creating an environment where economic growth and development can thrive.
Security Remains the Foundation of Development
Umahi explained that no nation can achieve sustainable development without peace and security, noting that investors, businesses, and development partners are more likely to invest in stable environments where lives and property are adequately protected.
He observed that the Federal Government has continued to strengthen security operations while implementing policies aimed at restoring peace in affected communities and improving the overall security architecture of the country.
Moreover, improved security creates opportunities for agriculture, commerce, education, tourism, and infrastructure development, all of which contribute to national prosperity and job creation.
Citizens Have a Critical Role to Play
The minister emphasized that every Nigerian has a role in promoting national security by supporting law enforcement agencies and rejecting activities that threaten peace and social stability.
He encouraged communities to collaborate with security personnel by sharing credible intelligence and promoting peaceful coexistence among diverse groups.
In addition, Umahi urged religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth organisations, and civil society groups to continue advocating unity, tolerance, and dialogue as effective tools for preventing conflict and strengthening national cohesion.
Such collective efforts, he said, will enhance the effectiveness of ongoing security operations across the country.
Government Continues to Invest in National Development
Beyond security, the minister highlighted the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic reforms, and social investment programmes aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
He stated that ongoing investments in roads, bridges, transportation networks, and other public infrastructure are designed to stimulate economic activities, facilitate trade, and improve connectivity across the federation.
Furthermore, sustained infrastructure development supports employment generation while creating conditions that encourage private sector investment and regional integration.
According to Umahi, these initiatives form part of the broader vision to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
Unity Will Strengthen National Progress
The minister appealed to citizens to remain optimistic and continue supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and inclusive development.
He stressed that national progress depends on collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, community leaders, and ordinary citizens working together toward common goals.
Moreover, fostering unity and mutual trust will strengthen efforts to address security challenges while creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth and social advancement.
Building a Peaceful and Prosperous Future
Senator David Umahi reaffirmed that the Tinubu administration remains committed to restoring security and creating an environment where Nigerians can pursue their aspirations without fear.
He expressed confidence that with the continued cooperation of citizens and the dedication of security agencies, the country will overcome its security challenges and achieve greater stability.
As Nigeria continues its journey toward national renewal, the minister maintained that collective responsibility, patriotism, and unwavering support for efforts to protect lives and property will remain essential to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation for present and future generations.
